It is that time of year again, a new year, new hopes, and new year’s resolutions! I have always loved making New Year’s resolutions. Yes – I am one of those people.
I love reflecting on the past year, and thinking about what I want out of this next year, and areas I want to continue to grow as a person. Sometimes, my goals have been overly ambitious. Yet, no matter if I’ve finished every goal, I believe that I have continued to grow with each year’s goals. I also highly recommend writing your goals somewhere you can look back over each year to see how you’ve changed.
Now that it has been colder again, being active has fallen wayside. My husband and I have been talking about ways we can stay active this year, year round. Even when the weather doesn’t permit getting outside with our kids. One of our main dreams is to keep our eye out for purchasing a good treadmill. But in the meantime, we still need to keep ourselves active and healthy.
Unfortunately, our family dance parties are just not enough.
Our goal is to start doing at least 30 minutes, 3-4 times a week. How are we going to do that when we don’t have a gym membership anywhere?
At home workouts.
Now, where do we start? There are hundreds of programs you can start with. I’m a firm believer in doing whatever works for you to stay healthy. Since we are just getting started, I am more interested in low cost as well, ideally free!
Here are 3 of my favorite free YouTube fitness instructors:
1. My favorite workouts are through Cassey Ho, the creator of Blogilates.
I love her workout videos. I used to do her POP Pilates videos regularly in college. You can follow her blog, which has tons of workout videos, but also printables to follow for workouts. She frequently has challenges going, during January she is doing a 100 ab challenge for 30 days, with different ab workouts every day. You can find her videos on youtube and even search for different types of workouts such as arms or abs, and most videos are only 30mins long. Her energy and background music always keep me motivated to keep going.
2. Most recently I’ve started following Yoga with Adrienne.
I am no yoga expert, but I have always enjoyed attending yoga classes when I’ve been able to. On her youtube channel, Adrienne has everything from beginners’ yoga, yoga with kids, yoga for relaxation, for weight loss, for sciatic pain, and more. If you’ve never done yoga, her videos are a great place to start. If you’re not a beginner, she has videos on more advanced levels with shoulder stands.
3. Lastly, Kayla Itsines, creator of Bikini Body Guide.
Full disclosure, I have not done her videos myself, but I have friends who love her workouts and speak very highly of them. You can find many of her workouts on YouTube or she has an app you can download on your phone. Now, the app is free but it mentions in app purchases. I am really excited to try a few of her youtube video workouts this year.
As a mom it is incredibly hard to fit in a workout at home, I am hopeful with some of these 30ish minute workouts, I can keep working towards a healthy lifestyle. If completing them while my kids are awake, at least if they’re on youtube, I can pause them, grab my daughter her snack, and finish my workout. I hope you found some new in the new year inspiration for healthier you!
