Earth Day Seed Bombs

This Earth Day craft not only allows kids to get creative and hands-on, but it also promotes environmental stewardship by encouraging them to plant flowers or herbs that will benefit local pollinators and contribute to a healthier ecosystem. Plus, it’s a great way to repurpose old paper and reduce waste!

Materials Needed:

1. Recycled paper (newspaper works well)
2. Wildflower seeds or herb seeds (choose native varieties if possible)
3. Blender or food processor
4. Water
5. Bowl
6. Large spoon
7. Cookie cutters (optional)
8. Twine or ribbon (optional)

Instructions:

1. Tear the recycled paper into small pieces and place them in the blender or food processor.

2. Add a small amount of water to the paper pieces and blend until you get a pulp-like consistency. You may need to add more water if the mixture is too dry.

3. Once the paper pulp is ready, transfer it to a bowl and add a handful of wildflower or herb seeds. Mix well to distribute the seeds evenly throughout the pulp.

4. Use a spoon to scoop out small amounts of the seed mixture and shape them into balls. If desired, you can press the mixture into cookie cutters to create fun shapes like hearts or stars.

5. Place the seed balls on a tray or parchment paper and allow them to dry completely. This may take 1-2 days depending on the humidity level.

6. Once the seed bombs are dry, they are ready to be planted! Simply find a suitable outdoor location (such as a garden bed or bare patch of soil), place the seed bombs on the ground, and lightly cover them with a thin layer of soil.

7. Water the area gently to help the seed bombs settle into the soil, and then wait for the seeds to germinate and grow into beautiful flowers or herbs.

Optional: Tie a piece of twine or ribbon around each seed bomb to make them look like mini presents or gifts for the Earth.
