Hey, dads!
I know, I know. It’s not Cedar Rapids Dads, but hear me out.
It’s Valentine’s Day today. You might not have gotten anything for your wife or significant other yet, but no big deal. You’ll pick up something before you head home tonight, right? Maybe it’s a card or some flowers. Maybe you’ll even splurge and get some jewelry for her. All are nice gifts that would be greatly appreciated. Here comes the but…you knew it was coming, didn’t you?
But, none of those gifts require a whole lot of thought or effort on your part.
I’ll let you in on a little secret – women LOVE it when their man puts both thought and effort into a gift. It makes us feel special since we must have been worth it to you. Even though they are last minute, each of these Valentine gifts will score you huge points in the amazing partner category. In addition, all 5 of these Valentine gifts for moms can simply be written into a card. There is still time to amaze your sweetie with your thoughtfulness TODAY!
This year, give her one of these last minute Valentine’s Day gifts:
1. A Break!
Schedule a girls’ night out with her friends. Pick a place and time, then send a quick text to her friends. You’ve now got a great gift and it didn’t even take a whole lot of effort! We’ve made this one especially easy for you. Check out this post as well as this post on fun nights out in Cedar Rapids!
2. A Clean Ride.
True love is vacuuming all the cheerios out of the van. Don’t have time to clean the vehicle for her? There are many local places you can take it in to get detailed cleaned. Leave a new travel mug and gift card for her favorite drive-through and you’ll be approaching man-of-the-year status.
3. A Lighter Load.
Think of something she does every day for your family and may not really enjoy. Does she do all of the laundry or always make the evening meal? Is she always the one to be shuttling kids around or doing the errands? Does she take on the constant battle of cleaning with small kids underfoot? Let her know that you will be taking on one (or more) of those responsibilities for one week. You’d be giving her the gift of more time and less stress. Who doesn’t want that?
4. A Date Night!
Scheduling a date night does not just mean making a reservation at a nice place. This means you will set up the babysitter, figure out what the babysitter will feed the kids, and make it somewhat healthy while you are at it. Get the house picked up and pep talk the kids about what they are to expect for the night. If she usually writes a note about bedtimes and routines, you’ll be the one finding a pen to get ‘er done. The bottom line is, for this date night, all your honey will have to do is get ready, kiss her babies goodnight, and get swept away by her man. You’ll get major points on this one, not to mention a hot date with a beautiful lady. No babysitter? No problem! You can still sweep her off her feet with a date night at home!
5. A Love Letter.
Yes, really. You knew this would be on this list because she’d love it. Sit yourself down with a pen and paper. Let her know that you really see her. You see and love all that she does for your family. Tell her about all the qualities you love about her. Write of the love you have for who she was when you fell in love with her, and who she is now as the mother of your children. Feeling completely appreciated and loved could very well be the best gift you’ve ever given her.
You might think Valentine’s Day is an overly commercialized holiday, and you might be right. So, just skip the commercialized parts and make it personal for the woman who loves you. You can use today to show your sons how a man cares for a woman and your daughters how you expect a man to cherish them. Today, celebrate and appreciate the person you have chosen to help raise your children and walk alongside you in life.
Happy Valentine’s Day, Dads!
