Be My Valentine: Kid-Friendly Valentine’s Day Ideas

Hearts, flowers, chocolates, oh my!  Valentine’s Day may be known as the ‘romantic’ holiday, but that doesn’t mean it only has to be about romance toward our significant others.  In all honesty, my husband and I consider Valentine’s Day to be more of a Hallmark holiday anyway, so we’ve decided it would be fun to make this day more about our little ones.  Why shouldn’t our kids be a part of this holiday of love as well?

Be My Valentine: Kid-Friendly Valentine's Day Ideas

Here are some kid-friendly ways to make Valentine’s Day even more full of family love:

Hearts on the door

Cut out red, pink, and white paper hearts.  Then write an inspiring or kind word or phrase that describes your child on each one.  Hang them all over their bedroom door for a happy surprise when they wake up on February 14th!

Streamers & Balloons

Easy and inexpensive!  All kids love colorful streamers and balloons.  Hang them on their doors, sneak some in their bedroom, or spread them around the living room.  It’ll be a hit no matter what!

Valentine Themed Breakfast

For us, this usually consists of pink or red heart-shaped pancakes and strawberries with some whipped cream.  Always a hit!  You could also do heart-shaped donuts or cinnamon rolls with pink frosting and sprinkles.  Or you could even spell out the word love using breakfast items like hash browns, scrambled eggs, bacon/sausage, and fruit.

L O V E craft

Spell out the word love by painting the letter L, using your child’s handprint for the O, their footprints to form the V, and the painting the letter E.  Super easy and such a fun and special keepsake or a great Valentine’s gift for someone!

Flowers & a Movie

My husband started this Valentine’s tradition with our daughter when she was two.  He buys her flowers and a movie each Valentine’s Day.  Sometimes he includes a fun balloon.  I think it’s adorable and she looks forward to it each year.  Maybe it doesn’t have to be flowers and a movie, but you could start your own little Valentine’s Day gift tradition. I’m hoping to start my own little gift tradition with my son this year.

Make a Valentine’s Box

I have my students do this each year for our Valentine’s Day party and it is so fun to see what they create!  I’ve seen football fields, butterflies, Minions, rainbow creations, and even a Unicorn!
