Stop the Guilt! It’s Time to Give Up the “Mom Guilt”

Mom Guilt.  It is something most (if not all) of us know all too well.  While there are some things I may always feel guilty about (like my decision to be a working mom), there are many more things I have let go.  So, I decided to make a list of all the things I’ve ‘given up’ on with no guilt! It’s actually kind of freeing to say!

Giving Up Mom Guilt

Weekday Breakfasts

Mornings at our house are hectic.  We aren’t morning people and we all need to leave the house (and use the bathroom) at the same time.  I would LOVE for us to sit down and eat a traditional breakfast, but that is just not going to happen.  Sometimes breakfast requests include cheese and applesauce and I roll with it! If we are all fed and out the door on time, I’m not feeling guilty about that!

Screen Time on Friday Night

After 5 mornings of rushing to get out of the door on time (breakfast foods may vary) we are all exhausted on Friday nights.  Friday nights we all just want to lay on the couch. Instead of feeling guilty about having more than usual screen time, I have embraced it and made into a weekly tradition!

Birthday Invitations

For my daughter’s first birthday I hand-made birthday invitations; for her second birthday I ordered printable ones on Etsy.  By her third birthday, I wised up and created a Facebook event. Do I feel bad I’m not spending time hand-making making invitations? Not if an e-vite is going to remind people to RSVP! See ya, paper invitations!

Certain Holiday Traditions

Our family doesn’t have an Elf on the Shelf come Christmas time.  I absolutely LOVE to watch my friends who document their elves hi-jinks every day, but we aren’t going to have one at our house anytime soon.  I have learned that to stay sane, I can’t put too much on my plate at the holidays. When I start feeling guilty that the holidays aren’t ‘magical’ enough for my daughter, then I remember all the other holiday traditions we do instead!

So what about you?  What have you ‘given up’ on and don’t feel guilty about?  We’d love to hear and maybe be inspired to give up more guilt!
