Welcome to a new monthly post where I share what we’re reading in our house and, hopefully, you’ll share what you’ve been reading too. There are so many options, it’s great to get personal recommendations from those who are in a similar life stage as us.
My baby is just starting to use a few signs we’ve been practicing from this book: Baby Signs by Joy Allen. It’s been so fun to see it click when he realizes that if he signs for “more” we give him more! You can also buy it here.
Shoutout to Dolly Parton Imagination Library for sending us this sweet book about how to deal with big feelings. The first weeks of school are a great time to let our kids share what’s going on, but on their terms. Check out: The Rabbit Listened by Cori Doerrfeld.
We’ve been listening to audiobooks at bedtime. It saves my voice, and I love listening to them too! One of our favorites so far is Fortunately the Milk (buy it here) by the incomparable Neil Gaiman. It’s the story of a father who goes out to buy milk, and has an incredible adventure including pirates, volcanoes, dinosaurs, and aliens. Bonus, Gaiman reads it himself and has a fantastic British accent.
I just finished listening to the audiobook of Belabored: A Vindication of the Rights of Pregnant Woman by local author Lyz Lenz. It’s not light reading, but there is a great mix of historical anecdotes, current research, and personal narrative that at times had me laughing out loud, and others angrily writing an email to my state representatives about the treatment of women in this country. It’s a doozy. Very relatable. Very thought-provoking.
So, now it’s your turn! What have your kids been into that you can vouch for? What are you reading?
