Five Simple Spring Cleaning Tips

I’m not the personality type that usually puts “clean” and “fun” in the same sentence, but spring cleaning is my jam. It might be an occasional love-hate relationship, but I feel SO much better after I clean. With my own spin and flare, I have managed to actually make it fun.

Here are some of my favorite spring cleaning tips:

Five Simple Spring Cleaning Tips

1. Vodka

Vodka is a great natural disinfectant and is a great deodorizer. Just add water, vinegar, and vodka to a spray bottle and you’re set! You can add some drops of your favorite essential oil if that’s your thing. A vodka lemonade is also a refreshing drink to keep you enticed on your cleaning! Bonus– most alcohols can be used as a natural disinfectant so you can choose your favorite one!

2. Listen to a music playlist

Grab some earbuds or crank up your stereo and get moving! Spotify and Pandora, or even Youtube have premade cleaning playlists. Feel free to gear it towards your specific interests, whether that be your go-to podcast or an audiobook. Just make sure to choose something that makes you want to get up and move!

3. Repurpose old clutter.

The “junk” hanging around your house is just waiting to be upcycled! Before throwing things out, search Pinterest or DIY sites for some fun trends and ideas. You can repurpose these items for yourself, or even sell them online or at a local garage sale for some extra cash.

4. Let your purging be an incentive to go shopping!

This may be one of my personal favorites!  Any excuse to add items to my Amazon cart or a Target run is motivation enough for me. You can donate your old items, take them to a local consignment store, or sell them online.

5. If you didn’t use it, lose it!

I typically give myself a one-year rule. If I haven’t used an item, worn an outfit, etc. in a year then it’s time to toss it. I will say this past year I gave myself a free pass; with the pandemic interrupting so much of our lives, it makes sense we might have an abundance of things or clothes unused yet.

Spring cleaning is so revitalizing for me. The transition of seasons is the perfect reason to declutter and organize. Bye, bye winter gloves and bulky boots, and hello open windows and sunshine!

Tell me, what’s your favorite spring cleaning hack or tip?!
