“We’re out of diapers.” Cringe. No parent wants to hear/say those words. Or see the total on the receipt after restocking with a box of diapers that will only last a couple of weeks.
But for some parents in our community, those words truly cause a feeling of dread in their hearts. Because they can’t afford to buy their child more diapers. They often have to decide between buying food and buying diapers, an impossible choice. Parents who are struggling financially can receive help with health insurance and food for their children, but there are no state or federal programs to help with the cost of diapers. Which is why Eastern Iowa Health Center and Young Parents Network have partnered to create Cedar Rapids’ Eastern Iowa Diaper Bank.
How to Get Diapers
How to Get DiapersThe Eastern Iowa Health Center and Young Parents Network work together to identify families in need of diapers. Families can receive diapers if they are clients of both non-profits and attend well-child appointments, parenting classes, etc. If you are a family in Cedar Rapids who is in need of assistance, you may get more information here.
How To Donate Diapers
According to the Easter Iowa Diaper Bank website, one child goes through nearly 3,000 diapers/year. In Linn County there are over 2,000 children under age 5 living in poverty. You can help!! The Diaper Bank accepts new and opened packages of diapers, any size! They also accept monetary donations.
Where to Donate Diapers
- You may donate diapers at any Cedar Rapids or Marion Hy-Vee foodstores or drugstores through October 31st during Operation Diaper Drive. Hy-Vee is also accepting monetary donations at their stores.
- At Eastern Iowa Health Center (600 7th St SE, Ste 103 in Cedar Rapids)
- At Young Parents Network (420 6th St SE, #260 in Cedar Rapids)
- Online securely on the Eastern Iowa Diaper Bank website
