Local Summer Fun: Morgan Creek Park & Arboretum

If you are looking for some time spent with nature this summer, I suggest spending some time at Morgan Creek Park and Arboretum. It is a little ways off Highway 100 in Palo. All 352 acres of Morgan Creek are beautiful and it recently had an awesome facelift done on the playground and picnic area. We went in the morning and the kids had a good time ziplining, sliding and climbing all over the “futuristic” looking playground equipment. Then we had lunch in one of the new beautifully built open air shelters. And lastly, we explored some of the trails through the arboretum and went creek stomping in the actual creek running through the park.

Morgan CreekWhy we enjoyed Morgan Creek:

-So much nature! There are beautiful trees and butterfly gardens along the trails on the arboretum side of the park and tadpoles and frogs to search for in the creek. It is such a big space that you forget you are so close to the city still.

-There is lots to do at Morgan Creek. Like I mentioned above, the new playground is amazing and big. There trails are long and have lots for littles to look at and explore.

-Creek stomping. Something about wading in a real creek looking for toads just really makes the day a fun adventure.

-Clean bathrooms and picnic table shelters, always a plus when you have kids with you!

Morgan CreekThings to know about Morgan Creek:

-It is a take in-take out park. Bring a bag to collect all of your garbage, especially if you plan to have a picnic.

-Bring water shoes if you want to get in the creek. If you take the trail behind the campground, there is a small opening where you can step into the creek. It is rocky and slippery though so wear some shoes that will help you wade through the water.

-Dogs are welcome but must stay on a leash while at the park.
