It’s Okay to Have Ice Cream for Dinner

Mom = Superwoman.   We can do it all.

People in our lives assume we can handle it all because we might make it look like we can.

But can we?

We may even hold ourselves to that same standard because we have so many responsibilities.  We feel as though we are the problem-solvers, the shoulders to cry on, and also the glue that holds everything together.  Talk about pressure.

Do you ever feel like you’re going 100 miles a minute?  Have you ever had a day where you just feel like you can’t do anything right and you’re letting everyone down?  A day where you feel like you’re failing?

If you’ve had days like this, it’s okay to admit it.  It means you’re human.

Sometimes, the lists of things we feel we are expected to get done in a 24 hour period, yet still find time to sleep, can be overwhelming.

Sometimes all we need is for somebody to tell us that it’s okay to NOT be superwoman.  That it’s okay if we don’t get everything done on a given day or night.  It doesn’t make us a bad mom or even a bad person.  We need to realize that there are going to be times where we have to stop going through the motions and start really paying attention.  We have to know our limits and speak up.

One of the hardest things about being a mom, whether a working mom or a stay-at-home mom, is pushing the pause button.

Because if we push the ‘pause’ button, what will happen?  Complete chaos?  Utter distress?  World War 3?  Okay, that may be a bit dramatic but you get the idea.

What if someone told you it was OKAY to press that button?  It’s okay to leave the laundry baskets full for an extra night or to not unload the dishwasher.  I want you to know that if you decide to sit down and watch your guilty pleasure show after the kids are in bed instead of tackling a to-do list, that’s totally fine.

And if you want to have ice cream for dinner, go for it.

It's Okay to Have Ice Cream for Dinner

At times, we just need a break from the demands of everyday life.  And we shouldn’t feel guilty about it because when we push play again we will feel much more refreshed and rejuvenated.

We may once again feel like Superwoman.

So do yourself a favor; press pause and enjoy the little things.

Enjoy the giggles, the belly laughs, and the smiles.  Enjoy the hugs, kisses, and cuddles.  Enjoy the quiet time, the fun time, and the free time.  Don’t get too caught up in the fog.  It can happen easily but allow your children to guide you out of it.  They don’t realize they’re doing it; they are just being themselves, and that’s the best part.

Whether you are a stay-at-home mom, a working mom, a step-mom, a mom of one, or a mom of many – we all deserve to hear that we are still doing great, even if we decide to take a step back.

Because we are.  So if you haven’t heard it today…you are doing GREAT!
