By 4:30 PM, I’m back in my crumb-filled SUV, picking up my youngest from daycare, and diving straight into evening chaos: dinner, homework, meltdowns, baths, books, cleaning, and bedtime routines. If I’m lucky, I’ll sneak in a quick shower and 30 minutes of half-conscious convo with my husband before we both pass out by 9 PM.
There’s No Time for “Self-Care” in This Season
Let’s be honest—there’s no bingeing Netflix. No flipping through novels. No bubble baths or spa nights. This isn’t Hot Girl Summer—it’s Burnt Out Woman Summer, powered by caffeine and whatever snacks I can forage.
I miss the simple joys that used to come with summer:

And yet… I try to soak it all in. The post-practice glow on my daughter’s face after gymnastics. The bathtub giggles. The way they fall asleep with messy hair and sun-kissed cheeks.
One day, the house will be quiet. The grocery bill will shrink. There won’t be sticky fingerprints to wipe or crumbs to sweep. And I’ll miss it. God, I’ll miss it.
But just because I’ll miss it someday, doesn’t make it easier today.
