When was the last time you got dressed in something other than yoga pants (not counting for work)? Has your hair been put up in a messy bun for way too long? Are your kids driving you to take a mommy time-out? It’s time to call your girlfriends, get dressed up, and let your hair down for a girls night out in Cedar Rapids!!
It’s Showtime!
Maybe you’re one of the lucky ladies who has a partner that loves the theatre. I am not and I suspect many of you are not either. So, grab your girlfriends and take in a show at Theatre Cedar Rapids or The Paramount. There are lots of dining and drinking establishments right downtown you can go to for a pre-show dinner or drink. Then, enjoy a play, musical, or orchestra performance and let your mind forget about everything else, even if just for a few hours!
Some of my favorite pre-show spots? Linge Lounge (right inside Theatre CR), White Star Ale House, and the Black Sheep Social Club. If your girls are the artsy type, check out these five artsy spots for girls night out in Cedar Rapids!
Productivity Meets Fun
Why not mix time with your girlfriends and meal prepping? Several area HyVee grocery stores offer the opportunity to gather your girlfriends and prep freezer meals for your family. You choose the meals you want to make ahead of time. Then, HyVee takes care of the shopping and some of the prep work. All you have to do is assemble your dishes in their kitchen. Forget the prep and cleanup – they have you covered!
At the end, they tally up the cost of all your groceries, divide it by the number of meals made, and you just pay for as many meals as you’re taking home. My friends and I love to do it every couple months so we always have something on hand and always have an excuse to get together. As a bonus – you can eat and/or drink anything you want while you cook, as long as you purchase it in store. Call your local HyVee to see if they offer this fun night out!
Escape Reality
Have you heard about the new trend popping up in cities across the nation? It’s the Escape Room party, and we have two places to participate here in Cedar Rapids! Gather a group of friends and get locked in a room with the goal of solving puzzles to unlock the door and be free. Drinks are available for purchase. You and your girlfriends can have a GNO where you not only have a blast, but you get a brain workout in, too! Participate in an Escape Room party at either Shores Events Center Underground Escape or Cedar Rapids Break Out.
Dinner & Movie with a Twist
It may be cold in Cedar Rapids, but it’s award season in Hollywood. If you haven’t seen any of the nominees for Best Picture, grab your girls and make GNO a dinner and movie night. I highly recommend you start your evening off at Mandarin Spice Asian Grill where the sushi is delicious and the martinis are huge. From there, you can pop over to Collins Road Theaters and see the latest movies at a fraction of the cost of the regular movie theaters. Six of the seven shows you can choose from are all nominated for Oscars.
Want to make it an extra fun GNO? Pull out your most fabulous dresses that you never have a reason to wear, and dress up like you’re heading to the Oscars, too. You may get some extra stares, but only because they’ll be jealous how fabulous of a night you’re having.
There are so many options for your girls night out in Cedar Rapids. Regardless of what you do, just remember it’s important for your well-being to make time for yourself. And nothing melts away stress and worry like time with your girlfriends!
Oh, and if you happen to have a couple too many cocktails (it happens!), make sure you know how to recover from a girls night out!
