I don’t feel like I chose to homeschool my kids this year, I feel more like it chose me. Here I sit, two months in, wondering how in the world I’m going to do this. We just started chapter three in their math books. We have a few weeks until Christmas, at which point we should be half way through chapter four. I don’t think we’re going to make it…
Despite being waaaaaay behind on math (and, well, every other subject), my kids are learning. And so am I! We’re all a little pandemic fatigued and itching to get out of the house, but I don’t think we’re going to have many opportunities for that any time soon. One thing that has helped is doing virtual field trips. While I try to not have my kids in front of a screen all day, I find educational screen time very helpful and they get almost as excited about these field trips as they do about playing games on their tablets.
Virtual field trips have been a fun learning experience and help us feel a little less claustrophobic.
Thanks in part to the pandemic, there are tons of virtual field trips available on the internet.

The Colosseum and the Ice Lagoon links are part of a website that is full of virtual field trips all over the world. The International Space Station tour is part of Google’s Arts and Culture website, where you can find thousands of museums, artists, historical figures, global destinations, and more.
