5 Easy Meals for New Moms

I remember how chaotic the first few days and weeks were after having my two kids. I barely had time to shower, let alone get a warm meal on the table for my family.

After our first child was born, we resorted to a lot of carry out, but when we had our second, we had a toddler we had to feed too. Something about feeding your own child holds you accountable to provide nutritious food and not live on carry out! I was so appreciative when people came to visit with a prepared meal for us. We didn’t have to worry about going to the grocery store or fixing dinner between feeding a baby and meeting the needs of a toddler. This is also why one of my favorite gifts to give to a new mom is a homemade meal.

5 meals to bring a new mom

I’ve compiled a list of helpful tips and 5 of my go-to recipes to bring to a new mom. Hopefully you’ll find a meal to be as great of a gift as I do!

My 5 Favorite Go-to Meals for New Moms:

1. BBQ Chicken

This is a great meal to make to give away and keep some for your family. It makes a good amount (depending on how many chicken breasts you use) and is so easy. Throw it in the crock pot and let it cook! Extras to include: Buns & Extra BBQ sauce.

2. Crispy Cheddar Chicken

I omit making the cheese sauce with this one. It tastes great without it, in my opinion. This is a super kid-friendly dish and is a great freezer meal too.  Extras to include: Honey mustard or another sauce for dipping chicken.

3. Two Timin Pasta Bake

Olive Garden at home is how I would describe this dish. It mixes Alfredo and marinara sauces together to create a delicious pasta that any kid or parent would love! Extras to include: Garlic bread

4. Chicken Tortilla Soup

I love this Chicken Tortilla Soup recipe. It’s considered Whole30 compliant if you don’t include the extras, making it a great meal for a mom who can’t have dairy! Extras to include: Tortilla chips, guacamole, and sour cream.

5. Baked Turkey and Cheese Sandwiches

These sandwiches could not be more easy to make. Prepare sandwiches ahead of time and give to a new mom to pop in the oven. Extras to include: Frozen sweet potato fries or tater tots plus a veggie side.

6 Tips for Bringing Meals to New Moms:

1. Ask in advance if you can bring a meal.

What would be a good time to bring the meal? Also, check if there are any food allergies or special diets in the family and how many you should provide a meal for.

2. Use disposable containers/pans for the meal.

It’s a hassle for a new mom to find the time to return a glass dish, plus she has to wash it! It’s much easier to toss it in the garbage when the family has finished the meal. The Dollar Store is a great place to find toss away pans or plastic containers.

3. Label your food.

Include instructions on what it is and how to prepare it. If you want you can even include a nice little note to the family with instructions and a congratulations.

4. Double it!

Make double the amount of food so you have some for your family!

5. Add some easy side dishes.

Include other items besides just the main meal. I like to include a vegetable, fruit and dessert with the meals I bring. Even if it’s a bag salad or frozen veggie, I feel like it completes the meal for them.

6. Dinner doesn’t work for you?

Consider bringing something besides dinner. I had friends bring me coffee and donuts, which I loved too!
