Family Underground Escape | 3:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. @ Shores Event Center
You are invited to test your wits in our Shorelock’s Wizardarium Underground Escape Room of magic and mystery. Work together to solve the secrets of Herbs and Potions, Fortune Telling, Astronomy, and Wizard Games. Unlock the wand and use the right spell to open the door and escape. Minimum number of participants is 3 and maximum number of participants is 12. For families with children between 6 and 14. $15/person with basic solvable puzzles and a 30-minute escape window. Hawkeye Downs Clean Up Day 2018 | 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. @ Hawkeye Downs Speedway and Expo Center
Did you know that Hawkeye Downs is a non-profit organization that needs volunteers and your help? They need help from the community in fixing up the Downs before racing starts. They will need help cleaning, painting, repairing and so on to make the next season even better! Please make it a family day or a group project for your organization and volunteer to help restore the Downs. RSVP to Britni Anderson (britni.anderson@hawkeyedowns.org). Refreshments and lunch provided. If the event gets rained out, event will be moved to the 22nd.
African American Museum of Iowa’s 25th Anniversary Celebration | 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. @ African American Museum of Iowa
Come to a party 25 years in the making! Face painting, balloons, refreshments, clay making and activities. Members take an additional 5% the Nikee museum gift store. Free admission.
Celebrate Mother Earth | 10:30 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. @ Cedar Rapids Public Library
Celebrate Mother Earth for Earth Day learning about recycling and composting. “Compost Stew” by Mary McKenna Siddals will be the featured book. Families will do a recycling craft making seed pots out of paper tubes and planting seeds. Free & open to the public.
Nerf Wars | 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. @ Kids First Gymnastics
Join us for Nerf Wars! Nerf Guns will be available, but please bring your own if you can! Please bring eye protection – sunglasses, goggles, etc. For ages 6 and up. Admission $16. Reserve spot online. Parent/guardian is expected to stay the whole time. Waiver must be signed for participation.
Sunday, April 22nd
Kernels Candy Hunt | 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. @ Veterans Memorial Stadium
Prior to the Kernels game on Sunday, April 22nd the Kernels will hold a Kids Candy Hunt on the field. The candy hunt will take place at approximately 1:15 PM and the gates open at 1:00 PM. Kids 12 and under will be welcome down on the field for the candy hunt. Please bring a sack or basket for your candy, but we will have some for anyone who forgets. Kids 12 and under also EAT FREE every Sunday. Purchase game tickets here.
Make Prairie Seed Bombs for Earth Day! | 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. @ Lion Bridge Brewing Company
Save & Protect the Monarch butterfly by making habitat seedballs that can be planted or dispersed to proliferate native prairie species the butterflies depend upon. We will also be giving away seed bombs to any customer that would like to take some home! Take some for your friends too! Spread the love. This is a FREE event open to all ages, but we only have 30 spots available for the seed ball making “class”. Reserve your spot for the seed ball making class here.
