Fright Nights Retro Series

October 10-26 @ Marcus Theatres Cedar Rapids Cinema

Showings are on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 10:00 p.m.  Tickets are $6. Movies: Friday the 13th – 1980 (October 10 – 12), A Nightmare on Elm Street (October 17 – 19) and Halloween -1978 (October 24-26). Note: all these movies are rated R.

Jack o’ Lanterns

October 12 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. or 2:00-3:30 p.m. @ Iowa Ceramics Center

Our popular series returns with three workshops this fall! Make a spooky jack o lantern from clay by using hand building techniques. Or make your project into a gourd for the upcoming holiday season—you are only limited by your imagination. Cost is $18. Kids under 8 must be accompanied by a paying adult. Note: 10:30am class is sold out.

Pumpkin Painting Party

October 12 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. @ National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library

Have a spooktacular time at the museum painting pumpkins, crunching on snacks, and sipping cider! Everyone is encouraged to wear spooky, silly, beautiful, or kooky costumes and there will be aprons available to help protect their faboolous outfits. All necessary supplies are included in the ticket price. Cost: $5 per child, one free adult.

Spooky Station

October 12-27 from 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Saturdays & 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Sundays @ The Play Station

A Family Friendly Halloween Event at The Play Station! For three spooky weekends in October the Play Station transforms into a Halloween wonderland for kids and families. Activities Include: Trick or Treating, Spooky Trail, Friendly Halloween Characters, Face Painting, Balloon Artist, Arts & Crafts, Halloween Activities & Games, and Much Much More!!! Admission is $12-16 for kids ages 1-15. (Adults are FREE) Admission includes all Halloween activities and all day entrance to the our indoor play adventure area. Kids that wear their Halloween costumes will get a free admission ticket to use on a future visit! Since this is a special event, no free tickets, discount coupons, $5 summer tickets, or groupon tickets accepted.

Harvest Hayrack Nights: Sunset Pumpkins

October 16-30 from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays @ Ushers Ferry

Does your little one turn into a pumpkin at sunset? This program is geared for families with young children (older children welcome). Bring supper with you and come out to Ushers Ferry for an early evening hayrack ride, bonfire and simple craft before bedtime. The saloon will be open with popcorn and sarsaparilla available for purchase. Cost is $6.25/child ages 3-14 (2 and under free); $9.50/adult.

Harvest Hayrack Nights: Night Owls

October 16-30 from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesdays @ Ushers Ferry

Enjoy an evening of old-fashioned fun! Take a hayrack ride through the valley, gather around the bonfire with hot cocoa to roast marshmallows, make a simple craft and join us in the saloon for some card games. Popcorn and sarsaparilla will be available for purchase. Cost: $6.25/child ages 3-14 (2 and under free); $9.50/adult.

Monster Mash Family Night

October 18 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. @ Stoney Point YMCA

Join us for this fun event for the whole family and get in the Halloween Spirit! This event is FREE for YMCA members or just $5 for non-members! Come dressed as your favorite character, ghost or goblin! Activities include a Monster Dash, Costume Contest, crafts, swimming, a cake walk and more! All children under the age of 9 must be accompanied by an adult. Register with any YMCA front desk today!

8th Annual Wickiup Fall Fest

October 19 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. @ Wickiup Hill Outdoor Learning Area

Kick off the fall season and enjoy a morning of family fun at Wickiup Hill! Come out and experience our friendly trick or treat hike through the woods, pumpkin bowling, straw scramble, creepy critters, and more! Aimed at ages 3-8, but younger and older siblings welcome. Costumes encouraged! Cost $3 per child. Registration deadline October 15.

Studio Experience: Glass Aliens and Pinch Pot Monsters

October 19 from 10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. @ Iowa Ceramics Center

Make Glass Aliens and Clay Pinch Pot Monsters in this extended workshop.  This is a project oriented class intended to expose students to both clay and warm glass in our studio. Cost is $35. Minimum age is 9 years old. Kids under 12 must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Outdoor Movie Night

October 19 from 5:30 – 10:30 p.m. @ Kacena Pumpkin Farm

Bring chairs and blankets for our fall event. There will be a kids maze, games, treasure hunt, and more! Movie will start at dusk. Drinks, snacks, and activities for purchase. Come join the Visioning Committee for this fun family event!

Safe Halloween for Kids

October 20 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. @ Ushers Ferry

Enjoy the annual old-fashioned Halloween at the village with trick-or-treating, games and costume contests.bring your best decorated pumpkin for the jack-o’-lantern contest. Advance registration is encouraged, but not required. Cost: $7/trick-or-treater.

Hocus Pocus at NewBo City Market!

October 25 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. @ NewBo City Market

They’re back, witches! Come see this Halloween favorite for free at NewBo City Market!
This cult classic tells a tale of three witch sisters resurrected in Salem, Massachusetts on Halloween night, and it is up to two teenagers, a young girl, and an immortal cat to put an end to their reign of terror once and for all. This event is free and open to the public!

Halloween Dance

October 25 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. @ NW Recreation Center

Put on your costume and join your friends at the NW Rec Center for a night of dancing and fun! Dance and groove to the music and enjoy snacks and drinks. Prizes will be awarded for the best costume! All Ages Welcome – $5.00 per person. No need to pre-register. Pay at the door!

Pumpkin Party at Prestige!

October 26 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. @ Prestige Dance Studio

Join us for crafts, games, dancing and fun! Kiddos 3-9 years old can be dropped off in costume for a morning of all things Halloween. Email us with questions! Space is limited, so don’t wait. $19 per child.

Halloween Craft Party (Ages 18 months – 6 years) 

October 26 from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. @ Kidcreate Art Studio

Park your broom at the door and come on in! Together, you and your child will create an adorable picture of a haunted house, complete with spooky handprint ghosts. What a great keepsake! The kids are welcome to wear costumes to class. Children must be accompanied by a caregiver. Cost: $12.60 member/$14 non-member

Annual Photo in your Costume Event

October 26 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. @ AE Photograpphy

Come on down to our studio for a professional photo of your kiddo{s} in their Halloween costume! We will email you 1 digital image for free! Due to time and the amount of kiddos that attend, siblings will be in the image together. So each family with receive one digital image. No appointment needed! Just come to the studio between the times listed! All ages welcome!

Fall Festival – Halloween at the Farm

October 26-27 from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. @ Bass Farms

Join us for our last Fall Festival Weekend of the season at Bass Farms! Open 10-6 Saturday and Sunday!! Wear your costumes to the farm this weekend! Bring your family to pick out your pumpkins, shop our country store, and have some family fun! Activities include hay rack rides, sling shots, 18 hole mini-golf, bounce houses, GIANT tic tac toe and checker board tables, photo booth, teeter totters, LIFE size connect four, GIANT Jenga, photo ops, music wall, witch hat ring toss and much much more!! New this year tricycle races on a path, painting/decorating pumpkin station (small fee), mini hay bale maze, hopscotch, sand box and sensory play areas, ladder toss and much more! Magic shows by Magic of Tim Stolba (1pm and 2:30pm), Face Painting (additional charge, 12-6 pm) and Papa Balloon (2-4 pm) Saturday and Sunday! Admission $7 per person (2 and under are free).

Halloween Craft Party (Ages 4-9) 

October 26 from 10:45 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. @ Kidcreate Art Studio

What’s the best part about Halloween? The candy, of course! We’ll create a spooky graveyard scene out of tons of “sweet” art supplies including some Halloween candy favorites like candy corn! The kids are welcome to wear their costumes to class. Cost: $25.20 member/$28 non-member

Boo ‘N Brew

October 26 from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. @ Lindale Mall

Join us for some skele-fun at our annual Boo ‘n Brew event, presented by T&K Roofing Company! Visit us for some fangtastic entertainment, food, boos and so much more! We’ll have an AWESOME Trunk-or-Treat full of lots of candy for those kiddos!! Z102.9 will also be broadcasting live and we’ll have FREE: hayrack rides, face painting, airbrush tattoos, balloon creations, a bouncy castle, stilt walker, selfie stations, yard & pumpkin games and more. Eastern Iowa Arts Academy will be performing live throughout the event.

Fall Fest

October 26 from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. @ New Covenant Bible Church

Fall Fest is a fun-filled family-friendly event! Your family can enjoy games, a hayride, giant inflatables, prizes, a photo booth, costumes, interactive family activities, and of course, candy! Fall Fest is for families and kids – 5th grade and under accompanied by an adult. Kids are invited to wear costumes…. or better yet, get your whole family to dress up! A hot dog lunch is available for $3.50. Open to the public! Free! Invite some neighbors to join you for an event every kid loves!

Boo at the Barn

October 26 from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. @ Miracles in Motion Farm

It will be a Spooky Halloween celebration at the Miracles in Motion Farm, a 76-acre spread located two miles west of Swisher (exit 10 off Interstate 380). Kids and adults alike will enjoy lots of Spooktacular fun with the Miracles’ team and their miraculous herd of horses. Activities will include face painting, crafts, games, inflatables, and other fun. Wear your Halloween costume if you like. Some of our horses may just wear their costumes, too!

Halloween Party

October 26 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. @ Cedar Rapids Public Library Downtown

Tour the Mad Scientist’s lab, search for treats and watch out for crafty tricks along the way. Kids and grownups alike are encouraged to come in costume for the afternoon.

Kids Halloween Party

October 26 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. @ Hy-vee Collins Rd

Join us for our annual Hy-Vee Halloween Party. We’ll have a variety of fun activities for the kids including: Cookie decorating, pumpkin craft, Rainbow mix with Dietitian Nicole, photo opportunities, coloring activities, and more! The first 100 kids trick-or-treating will receive a free bag, mini pumpkin, along with a free toothbrush!

Parade & Pumpkin Party Dance Camp

October 26 from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. @ The Pointe School of Dance

Dance with The Pointe in the Cedar Rapids Halloween Parade! Learn the dance, make a craft, and have a snack with friends in the afternoon from 1:30-3:00 and then perform in the parade that evening! Children ages 5+ (no dance experience required!) Cost: $30, includes parade registration and t-shirt.

Spooky Skate

October 26 from 1:30 – 5:00 p.m. @ Cedar Rapids Ice Arena

We’re having a Spook-tacular afternoon of fun at CRIA! There will be crafts, giveaways, and of course – SKATING! Make sure to wear your Halloween costumes and bring your friends. Admission is $6 with skate rental included.

Creep Kid Zone & Family Costume Contest

October 26 from 3:00-5:30 p.m. @ NewBo Market

Activities include: Face Painting, Haunted House Maze, Carnival Games, Photo Booth, Costume Parade and Freaky Family Costume Contest at 5pm.

2019 CR New Bo Czech Village Halloween Parade

The third NewBo/Czech Village parade is themed “Scary Things That Go Bump in the Night”

Monster Mash

October 26 from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. @ Kids First Gymnastics

Come dressed in your favorite costume to Kids First haunted house! We will spend the evening with a costume contest, dancing to songs, playing Halloween inspired games including Mummy Races and a spooky craft. It wouldn’t be complete without some Halloween “Feel Boxes”. Don’t miss out on this spook-tacular event!

Monster Mash

October 27 from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. @ The Iowa Children’s Museum

Come to The Iowa Children’s Museum for our annual Monster Mash Halloween celebration! Explore lights and shadows, get slimy in the Glow Lab, discover spooky toppings in the pizzeria, take a journey through our Monster Maze, and parade through the museum (costumes are encouraged!). All event activities are included in paid museum admission.

Theisen’s Dog O Ween

October 27 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. @ Theisen’s SW

Join us Sunday, October 27th for Theisen’s 16th Annual Dog-O-Ween Costume Contest! Cost of entry is $10/per pet and will go directly to the Cedar Valley Humane Sociey. Registration 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM. Contest Begins Promptly @ 3:00 PM. Prizes will be awarded for the following categories: Dog Only and Combo (Dog + Person). All dogs must be up to date on rabies and the canine Distemper/Parvo/Bordetella vaccine to enter.

Special Needs Trick or Treat 

October 27 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. @ Lindale Mall

Those with special needs (and their families) are invited to attend our Special Needs Trick or Treat. Extra precautions are taken to create an environment more suitable for individuals with sensory concerns. Visit tables/stores throughout the main level of the mall to collect candy and show off your costume!

Trick or Treat at Marion City Hall

October 31 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. @ Marion City Hall

Area princesses, superheroes, ghosts and goblins are invited to include a stop at Marion City Hall in their Halloween plans. The City of Marion will host a trick-or-treat event at City Hall (1225 6th Avenue) from 3-5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2019. Children can dress up in their Halloween costumes and collect candy and other treats from staff on both floors at Marion City Hall. They can even explore the fire engine and visit with firefighters onsite.


CEDAR RAPIDS TRUNK OR TREATS

October 19

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church (3-5pm) FREE FAMILY FUN. Parents mark your calendars…enjoy a fun way to trick-or-treat with the kids! Trunk-or-Treat provides a safe environment for families to enjoy a free afternoon of Halloween fun. No costume? No Problem! Come as you are. At Good Shepherd we go beyond trick-or-treat candy with crafts, games and plenty of fun. Thanks to our large indoor space, Trunk-or-Treat is rain or shine.

October 24

Indian Creek Elementary School (6:30-7:00pm) Trunk or Treat at Indian Creek! Indian Creek Elementary students and their families are invited to join us for this fun family event. Children are welcome to dress in their costumes! Please plan to park in the back parking lot and walk to the front lot at Indian Creek. Hosted by the Indian Creek Elementary PTO.

October 25

Guthridge Park (4:30-5:30pm) Strictly TEAL Trunk or Treat is trick or treating in a safe environment for kids with food allergies or special diets who want to celebrate Halloween without all the candy! Supplies are limited to the first 150 children.

The FITspot (6:00pm) Join us for a family fun (and first ever) event of “trunk or treat”. Will take place in The FITspot parking lot, so bring your costumes and scare us for a treat!! Anyone who would like to decorate their trunks is welcome, just send us a message! Theme is: MONSTER MASH

Calvary Baptist Church (6:00-8:00pm) Children are invited to come to Calvary Baptist Church to “trick or treat” from trunk to trunk in the church parking lot and stay to enjoy a hot dog and hot chocolate. Costumes are optional.

October 26

P&N Flight and Charter – Marion Airport (10:00am-1:00pm) P&N Flight and Charter and LuxAir Aviation are hosting their 5th annual community outreach “Trunk or Treat” event at the Marion Airport. This event allows children to come out to their local airport and experience trick or treating in a safe environment while learning about aviation. The kids go “door-to-door” among different vehicles (airplanes, helicopters, cars, trucks, motorcycles, fire engines, etc.) that have been decorated in some kind of Halloween theme. Airplane RIDES!!!: $25 per person ($30 per person with pumpkin drop). Candy drop at 12:30 and there will be plenty of candy and trinkets at the Treat Event.

Cedar Rapids Bank & Trust (1:00-3:00pm) Bring your children to our SPOOKTACULAR Kid’s Client Appreciation Day event! Come in your Halloween costume ready to have some fun! Vote on your favorite decorated trunk! Enjoy free popcorn and candy!

Schwenn Family Chiropractic (2:00-3:30pm) Bring your ghosts and goblins, princesses and dinosaurs to our 3rd annual Trunk-or-Treat! Join us Saturday, October 26th, 2:00-3:30 in our parking lot for some fun! Local businesses will be handing out candy and treats, the Marion Fire Department will have a fire truck for the kids to see, and we’ll have a photo opportunity with prizes! Put on your best costume, bring your bucket and some friends, and come see us!

West Ridge Care Center (2:00-4:00pm) West Ridge is inviting you and your family to come out and trick or treat with our residents. It is an open house setting, you are welcome to come anytime between 2 and 4pm. We ask that trick or treaters are limited to children 10 and under. Candy donations are welcome! Please see Mell with any questions.

Salem United Methodist Church (4:00-5:30pm) It’s our annual Trunk or Treat! Join us in our parking lot and in Fellowship Hall for a free, safe and family-friendly time of trick-or-treating, crafts, games, activities, face painting, and a balloon artist! Children will experience the fun of trick-or-treating from parked car to parked car whose trunks are opened and decorated. A fun evening for all!

Linn Grove Elementary School (4:30-5:30pm) One of our favorite PTO event is back for the 2019-20 school year! Come have fun by decorating a trunk, trunk or treating, or both! NEW things to come for this FUN event. Check back soon!

October 27

Linn County Fairgrounds (1:00-2:30pm) Join us for the 3rd Annual Trunk or Treat event. For further information or to register you trunk, please visit our website.

The Jaycees Center (2:00-4:00pm) Your Cedar Rapids Jaycees are beyond excited to host the 1st Annual Trunk-or-Treat Fundraiser on Sunday, October 27th at our Jaycees’ Center! In lieu of charging to participate in this special Halloween event, we are asking those who attend to bring a cash donation or a donation to benefit not one, but TWO local animal rescues: Fur Fun Rescue and S.A.I.N.T. Rescue (Saving Animals in Need Today)! Along with the trunk-or-treat offering candy and allergy-friendly treats for the kids, our Jaycees’ are excited to offer a FREE photo booth, FREE temporary tattoos, and music from Sounds by Novak. We will also host a Cookie Walk that will cost $1 to participate and everyone who participates will win a cookie, thanks to Iced Bakery. All proceeds from the Cookie Walk will benefit our two animal rescues.

Palo Community Center (2:00-4:00pm) Trunk or Treat Halloween is an event where families gather and park their cars in the parking lot of the Palo Community Center, open their trunks or back of their vehicles, decorate them and pass out candy from their trunks. This is not an event to replace trick-or-treating on Halloween night. Contest for best costume & best decorated trunk. Join us for a hayrack ride & be ready for ghoulish games and freaky fun!!!

St Paul’s United Methodist Church (3:00-4:00pm) We look forward to hosting our neighbors at our annual Trunk or Treat event for an afternoon of fun, food, and of course CANDY! No TRICKS here…only TREATS! You and your children can walk through our parking lot, stopping at each parked car to get candy. Join us at the 2nd Ave. parking lot on Oct. 27 from 3:00-4:00 pm for this family friendly event.

Community Savings Bank (3:00-4:30pm) Costumes required! Children are invited to Trick-or-Treat while viewing decorated trunks in the bank parking lot.

Bowman Model Home (3:00-5:00pm) Trick or treat early at the Bowman model home. We will have treats in each room of the house. Kids can decorate a mini pumpkin to take home with them. Don’t forget to wear your Halloween costume.

Living Hope Wesleyan Church (3:00-5:00pm) Fun, family-friendly way for the community to dress up and get lots of Halloween Candy! Invite your neighbors and friends to join us for Trunk or Treat on October 27th! In case of inclement weather the event will be held inside the church.

Cedar Rapids Christian Church (3:00-5:00pm) Join us in our west parking lot for crazy costumes and candy.We will also have Hotdogs and drinks for all that come. Join us from 3pm to 5pm. Fun for the whole family.

Farmers State Bank (3:30-4:30pm) Farmers State Bank is excited to announce their Trunk or Treat event! The staff of FSB will be joining in on the fun by decorating cars, dressing up and handing out candy. We will also be adding a small petting zoo this year! This event allows children to come out to their local bank and experience trick or treating in a safe and fun environment. All are welcome, so bring out your whole family and even the neighborhood kids! This will be held in the front parking lot of the main branch in Marion.

First Congregational-UCC (3:30-4:30pm) Trunk or Treat! Join us on Sunday, October 27th from 3:30-4:30pm on the Johnson Elementary STEAM Academy Playground for some Trunk or Treating fun! Sponsored by First Congregational UCC in conjunction with the Southside Boys & Girls Club.

October 29

Western Fraternal Life (5:15-6:30pm) Come to our annual Trunk-or-Treat event 5:15 to 6:30 p.m.! Safe trick-or-treat experience all in one location as car trunks are decorated to delight, and goodies are given to children. In case of bad weather, the event is moved indoors to the Annex Building near the parking lot.

Wolfe Eye Clinic (5:30-7:30pm) Join us for our 2nd Annual Trick or Treat event at Wolfe Eye Clinic in Hiawatha! This is a free fun event for all ages filled with games, prizes and trick or treating through our spooky trail! Can’t wait to see you all there!

October 30

Hillside Wesleyan Church (6:00pm) Trunk or Treat open to all ages! We need Trunkers, Treaters, AND Candy donations!

October 31

Aces & Eights Saloon (6:00-8:00pm) 3rd Annual Trunk or Treat on the large patio. Children do not have to enter the bar to trick or treat! Safe and Fun! Even though we love dogs…no dogs allowed on patios since they may not like each other! Please share. In the event of bad weather it will be cancelled and not rescheduled.
