FEATURED EVENT

Hip Hop Harvest Kids Dance Party  |  October 13th from 9:30-11:00 a.m. @ Prestige Dance Studio

Join Cedar Rapids Moms Blog and Prestige Dance Studio on Saturday, October 13th for a Hip Hop Harvest Party!! We’ll be doing dance activities, a fun obstacle course, crafts, and a snack! This is a great opportunity to have some fun and meet other Cedar Rapids moms and kiddos!! Tickets are $5/child ages 18 months and up (plus processing fees) and free for siblings 17 months and under. Parents are free. Kids may come in costume or comfy clothes!  Tickets must be purchased in advance. No tickets will be sold at the door. Get your ticket here!

Fright Nights Retro Series

October 4th-27th @ Marcus Theatres {Galaxy 16 Cinema}

Showings are on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 10:00 p.m.  Tickets are $5. Movies: The Shining (October 4 – 6), Candyman (October 11 – 13)’ IT (October 18 – 20) and The Exorcist (October 25 – 27). Note: all these movies are rated R.


Paint a Pumpkin

October 8 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. @ African American Museum of Iowa

Get your pumpkin painted in plenty of time to display it for Halloween. Decorate a cannonball pumpkin from Kroul Farms and take it home to show all your friends. Fee: $1. Limited to the first 20 participants. Wear appropriate clothing for painting, we are not responsible for decorated clothing.


Harvest Hayrack Nights: Sunset Pumpkins

October 10th and October 24th from 5:00-6:30 p.m. @ Ushers Ferry

Does your little one turn into a pumpkin at sunset? This program is geared for families with young children (older children welcome). Bring supper with you and come out to Ushers Ferry for an early evening hayrack ride, bonfire and simple craft before bedtime. The saloon will be open with popcorn and sarsaparilla available for purchase. $6.25/child ages 3-14 (2 and under free); $9.50/adult.


Harvest Hayrack Nights: Night Owls

October 10th and October 24th from 6:30-8:00 p.m. @ Ushers Ferry

Enjoy an evening of old-fashioned fun! Take a hayrack ride through the valley, gather around the bonfire with hot cocoa to roast marshmallows, make a simple craft and join us in the saloon for some card games. Popcorn and sarsaparilla will be available for purchase. $6.25/child ages 3-14 (2 and under free); $9.50/adult.


Curious George- A Halloween Boo Fest Movie Night

October 11th from 5:00-7:30 p.m. @ Bloomsbury Farm

Join us for another Kid’s Movie Night at the Farm. This year we’ll be showing Curious George – A Halloween Boo Fest! The Farm will open at 5pm for guests to enjoy the Farm activities- Jumping Pillow, Corn Box, Western Town, and more! The Movie will start at 6:30pm and last approximately 1 hour. Advanced registration is appreciated, but walk-ins are welcome! Each ticket includes a small popcorn and drink! The Concession Stand will be open, selling hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries, and pizza! Or you can order your family a Pizza Package in advance! (Please allow 20 minutes for baking time after your arrival.) $7.95 +tax per person age 3 and older (under age 3 are free).


Goosebumps 2 Party

October 13 & 14 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. @ Marcus Theaters (Council Street)

Join us on October 13 & 14 from 10 a.m. to noon for a FREE Goosebumps 2 Party to celebrate the opening of the new film! Activities will include: Cotton Ball Ghost Crafts, Make-Your-Own Tissue Paper Candy Corn, Coloring and Activity Sheets, Prize Giveaways, Enjoy Delicious Free Snacks, and more! Stay for the movie! Movie admission sold separately. 


Jack o’ Lanterns

October 13 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. or 2:00-3:30 p.m. @ Iowa Ceramics Center

This is a great way for kids and parents alike who are interested in creating in the studio. Get ready for Halloween by creating pumpkins using pinch pot techniques. Cost is $18. Minimum age is 9 years old. Kids under 12 must be accompanied by a paying adult.


Pumpkin Painting Party

October 13th from 1:00-2:30 p.m. @ National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library

Have a spooktacular time at the museum painting pumpkins, crunching on snacks, and sipping cider! Everyone is encouraged to wear spooky, silly, beautiful, or kooky costumes and there will be aprons available to help protect their faboolous outfits. All necessary supplies are included in the ticket price. $5 per child; Seating is limited. Please RSVP for this program by October 12.


Slide in Movie Night

October 13 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. @ The Play Station

Join us for Slide in Movie Night on Saturday, October 13th, 2018 we will be showing a Halloween favorite Hocus Pocus on our big screen projector system! Discounted Admission – $7 after 5pm. Adults are always free! We will also have $1 Popcorn in the concessions! The movie will start around 5:45pm!


Spooky Station

October 20-21 & 28-27 from 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. (Saturdays) & 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. (Sundays) @ The Play Station

A Family Friendly Halloween Event at The Play Station! For two spooky weekends in October the Play Station transforms into a Halloween wonderland for kids and families. Activities Include: Trick or Treating, Spooky Trail, Friendly Halloween Characters, Face Painting, Balloon Artist, Arts & Crafts, Halloween Activities & Games, and Much Much More!!! Admission is $12 for kids ages 1-15. (Adults are FREE) Admission includes all Halloween activities and all day entrance to the our indoor play adventure area. Kids that wear their Halloween costumes will get a free admission ticket to use on a future visit! Since this is a special event, no free tickets, discount coupons, $5 summer tickets, or groupon tickets accepted.


Clay Jack o’ Lanterns and Glass Picture Frames

October 20 from 10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. @ Iowa Ceramics Center

This is a great way for kids and parents alike who are interested in creating in the studio. Participants will develop two separate skill sets in our studio during the extended workshop time. Plan to arrive a few minutes early so you can get settled. Six sign-ups are necessary for the program to run, so get everyone together and make a day of it. Cost is $35. Minimum age is 9 years old. Kids under 12 must be accompanied by a paying adult.


Good Shepherd Trunk or Treat

October 20 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. @ Good Shepherd Lutheran Church

Parents mark your calendars…enjoy a fun way to trick-or-treat with the kids! Trunk-or-Treat provides a safe environment for families to enjoy a free afternoon of Halloween fun. No costume? No Problem! Come as you are. At Good Shepherd we go beyond trick-or-treat candy with photos, crafts, games and plenty of fun. Thanks to our large indoor space, Trunk-or-Treat is rain or shine.


Safe Halloween for Kids

October 21st from 1:00-4:00 p.m. @ Ushers Ferry

Enjoy the annual old-fashioned Halloween at the village with trick-or-treating, games and costume contests. $7/trick-or-treater.


Jefferson Orchestra Halloween Concert

October 22nd from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. @ Jefferson High School

Halloween Concert and Costume contest! Event is free to the public. Tickets will be sold for Peoples Choice Award in the Costume Contest to be held at intermission. ($25 Target gift card awarded for People’s Choice!) Come support our Jefferson Orchestra students!


Fall Festival – Halloween at the Farm

October 26th-28th from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. @ Bass Farms

Join us for another fun Fall Festival – Halloween Weekend at Bass Farms! Bring your family to pick out your pumpkins, shop our country store, and have some family fun! Activities include hay rack rides, sling shots, 18 hole mini-golf, bounce houses, GIANT tic tac toe and checker board tables, photo booth, teeter totters, LIFE size connect four, GIANT Jenga, photo ops, music wall, witch hat ring toss and much much more!! Magic shows by Magic of Tim Stolba (1pm and 3pm), Funny Face Designs by Lori FACE PAINTING (additional charge, 12-6 pm) and Papa Balloon (2-4 pm) Saturday and Sunday! Admission $7 per person (2 and under are free).


Haunted Open Studio

October 26th from 6:00  – 9:00 p.m. @ Kirkwood’s Art and Theatre Annex

It’s time for our Haunted Open Studio event again!! Come join us in your favorite costume for this fun family friendly Halloween themed Open House. The Kirkwood 3D Art Club is hosting a scary & art filled night to help bring our community together and to have a little fun. This event will consist of:
a student ran haunted house / tour, Interactive clay activities, teaching everyone how to make pumpkin for our Pinch Pot Pumpkin Patch, Live Glass Blowing Demos, Campfire & snacks, and a collaborative performance by professors Zach Wollert and Christopher Gray as they combine ceramics and glass in one visual display. This is a FREE event open to everyone. We would love for you to come out and show your support.


Halloween Monster Mash

October 27th from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. @ Cedar Rapids Downtown Library

Yikes! There are monsters in the library and you are invited to a Monster Party! Wear your Halloween costume and take part in the parade around the library! Crawl through the monster’s mouth, design your own monster and dance, limbo and play games to monster music. Come boys and ghouls and celebrate All Hallows Eve with us. Light refreshments and snacks will be provided.


Photo in your costume!

October 27 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. @ AE Photography

Come on down to our studio for a professional photo of your kiddo{s} in their Halloween costume! We will email you 1 digital image for free! No appointment needed! Just come to the studio between the times listed! All ages welcome!


4th Annual Trunk or Treat

October 27th from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. @ the Marion Airport

P&N Flight and Charter is hosting its fourth annual community outreach “Trunk or Treat” event at the Marion Airport. This event allows children to come out to their local airport and experience trick or treating in a safe environment while learning about aviation and the science of flight. The kids go “door-to-door” among different vehicles (airplanes, helicopters, cars, trucks, motorcycles, fire engines, etc.) that have been decorated in some kind of Halloween theme. Each year since its inception in 2015, the event has grown both in attendance and with some kind of new feature or attraction. This year, we are going to do a “Candy Drop,” where we will fill 5 gallon buckets with candy and drop candy from a helicopter. After the candy is dropped, participants will be able to run into the drop zone and pick up as much candy as they can. $30.00 to get an airplane ride and drop a pumpkin into a drop zone to win some cool prizes including a free intro flight!


Boo ‘N Brew

October 27th from 12:00-3:00 p.m. @ Lindale Mall

Join us for a fun Halloween/Fall event with something for all ages! Live music, games, Trunk-or-Treat, and SOO much more! And yes, a beer tent for the adults!


Kids Halloween Party

October 27th from 1:00-3:00 p.m. @ Hy-vee (Cedar Rapids and Marion locations)

Join us at any of our Food Store locations in Cedar Rapids and Marion for our annual Hy-Vee Halloween Party. We’ll have a variety of fun activities for the kids that you won’t want to miss, including a free bag for the first 100 kids trick-or-treating!


Creep Kid Zone & Family Costume Contest

October 27th from 3:00-5:30 p.m. @ NewBo Market

Activities include: Face Painting, Haunted House Maze, Carnival Games, Photo Booth, Costume Parade and Freaky Family Costume Contest at 5pm.


LG Trunk or Treat

October 27th from 4:30-5:30 p.m. @ Linn Grove Elementary School

There are 2 ways you can participate: Trunk  (Register to be a car for the event and hand out candy, there will be prizes for some of the best decorated trunks out there!) or Treaters (Bring your kids though to pick up candy from all the decorated trunks!). We will have everyone lined up in the bus lane ready for the Trunk or Treaters by 4:20, the bus lane will be closed at that time so all the kids can safely walk around to all the cars. We will be open from 4:30-5:30 for kids to Trunk or Treat in costume! If a car runs out they will need to stay until the last of the kids are done so everyone can remain safe. Registration to be a decorated car will start October 1st and you can register by emailing the PTO at linngroveptoemail{at}gmail{dot}com. Remember, nothing TOO scary as we want our PreK to 5th graders to all stop out! We will also be looking for Volunteers to help out as well!


Trunk ‘r Treat!

October 27th from 6:00-9:00 p.m. @ St Jude’s Catholic Church

Presented by The St. Jude Knights of Columbus, our annual Trunk ‘r’ Treat will provide an evening of spooky fun and tasty treats for all! Join us either by decorating your car and giving out candy, or by bringing a costume and visiting each trunk (to have the most fun-do both!!) All are welcome!!!


Halloween Monster Mash Bash

October 27th from 6:30-9:30 p.m. @ Kids 1st Gymnastics {Ages 5-14 years}

Come dressed in your favorite costume to the Kids First Haunted House! We will spend the evening with a costume contest and dancing to songs like the Monster Mash. We will play all sorts of Halloween inspired games, like Mummy Races and make a spooky craft! The night wouldn’t be complete without some Halloween “Feel Boxes”. Do you have what it takes to plunge your hand into a mystery box, filled with anything from worms to eyeballs?! We will have free time and enjoy some delicious pizza!  Don’t miss out on this spook-tacular event! Cost: $25.


Cedar Rapids NewBo/Czech Village Halloween Parade

October 27th from 6:30-8:00 p.m. @ NewBo/Czech Village

The second NewBo/Czech Village parade is themed “Tales of Mystery and Imagination.”


Fall Festival

October 28 from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. @ Guthridge Park

Trick or treats (while supplies last), Bounce house, Trackless train, and more! Prestige Dance Studio will perform at 11:30 am, Costume Contest will be at 12:00 pm, and the New Horizons Band Concert will be at 1:00 pm.


Monster Mash

October 28 from 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. @ The Iowa Children’s Museum

Save the date—and start thinking about your costume—for Monster Mash at The Iowa Children’s Museum. More details coming soon!


2nd Annual Trunk or Treat

October 28 from 1:00-2:30 p.m. @ Linn County Fairgrounds

What is Trunk or Treat? A great afternoon of fun! Great organizations and individuals will line the fairgrounds with their vehicles and pass out treats to visitors. This event will allow our Halloween loving children to experience a great way to trick or treat in a safe environment. Visitors will also be able to enjoy a free Daylight Tour of Frightmare Forest at Circle of Ash. If you or your organization would like to participate as a decorated vehicle we ask that you preregister by Friday, October 26th.


Trunk or Treat at St Paul’s UMC

October 28th from 3:00-5:00 p.m. @ St Paul’s United Methodist Church

St. Paul’s UMC looks forward to hosting our neighbors at our annual Trunk or Treat event for an afternoon of fun, food, and of course CANDY! No TRICKS here…only TREATS! You and your children can walk through our parking lot stopping at each parked car to get candy. Join us at the 2nd Avenue Parking lot on Sunday, October 28 from 3-5 pm  for this family friendly event. Questions please contact the church office at 363-2058.


Trunk or Treat at Trinity Lutheran

October 28th from 3:00-5:00 p.m. @ Trinity Lutheran Church

Please join us at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walford for a family friendly event! Plan to dress up in your favorite costume and join us for this fun-filled event.  There will be many cars with decorated trunks in the parking lot ready for the children to show off their Halloween costumes.  Activities include trick or treating, games and crafts, and a snack to warm you. We encourage all to join in the fun! See you there! Rain or Shine! 


FSB Trunk or Treat

October 28th from 4:00-5:00 p.m. @ Farmers State Bank in Marion

Farmers State Bank is excited to announce their first Trunk or Treat event! The staff of FSB will be joining in on the fun by decorating cars, dressing up and handing out candy. This event allows children to come out to their local bank and experience trick or treating in a safe and fun environment.
All are welcome, so bring out your whole family and even the neighborhood kids! This will be held on Sunday, October 28th from 4-5 pm in the front parking lot of the main branch in Marion.


Scary Stories on the Lawn

October 28th from 7:30-9:00 p.m. @ Indian Creek Nature Center

Gather around the fire for an evening of scary stories – stories that will have you looking over your shoulder into the dark woods! A snack will be provided. Bring lawn chairs and/or blankets. This program is not for young children. Stories will be scary!  Registration required. Fee: $5 (members), $8 (non-members). 


It’s an Indoor Halloween Parade!

October 30 at 10:00 a.m. @ Emery Place Assisted Living & Memory Care in Robins

Bring your ghosts and goblins (ages 0-6) to our senior living community for a trick-or-treat parade!  Children will parade thru the community collecting treats & sharing their costumes with our residents & staff. We will provide a bag for each child.  Daycares and strollers welcome. Sign up by October 25th!! RSVP: admin{at}emeryplaceliving{dot}com


Trinity’s Trunk-or-Treat

October 30 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. @ Trinity Lutheran School

Trunk-Or-Treat time at Trinity! The event will be in the East parking lot of Trinity Lutheran School. Trunks can arrive at 5:30 pm to set-up. Awards will be given for Favorite Trunk. Our 8th Grade class will also be selling slices of pizza to go along with all the candy! So don’t forget to bring along a little cash for some dinner.


Halloween Dance Party

October 31 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. @ Ladd Library

Ghouls and boys join us for a spooktacular afternoon before you head out trick or treating. There’ll be dancing games, prizes and a costume bin to choose from if you don’t have one.


Lisbon Halloweentown

October 31st from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in Downtown Lisbon

Downtown Lisbon transforms into one of the scariest fun places to be this Halloween!  Join Lisbon area businesses for a fun and frightful night.  Bring your kids downtown to Trick or Treat at spooky downtown businesses.

  1. Jefferson High School Orchestra is presenting a family friendly Halloween Concert October 22nd at 7:00 p.m. in the Jefferson High School Auditorium. Admission is free! There is a kids costume contest so kids should wear their Halloween costume. Come hear some awesome orchestra Halloween tunes and support the Jefferson High School orchestra kids.
