Fall Fridays in the Uptown Artway (Fridays in September, 5:00-7:00pm) Enjoy live music on the Uptown Artway stage Friday nights this fall! This unique venue is the perfect place to start the weekend and support local artists and businesses. Relax on a neighboring outdoor patio or bring your own chairs. Uptown Artway (between 7th and 8th Avenues and 10th and 11th streets).

Music on the Move (2nd & 4th Saturdays of the month 9:15-10am & 10:15-11am; Wednesdays 9:15-10:00am, and Thursdays 9:30-10:15am) Sing, play, listen, laugh, move, learn and bond with your baby through 4-year-old.  Come and join us for 45 minutes of weekly music and play while we explore songs, instruments, games, rhythms, chants, movement, sign language, and a variety of musical styles. Children learn through play- especially play with YOU!  We will have fun tickling our senses while playing with (learning!) music, language, motor, social, and pre-academic skills.  Lisa’s expertise as a board-certified music therapist ensures that all children are welcome, regardless of developmental limitation. STEM Family Free Night (Last Friday of the month, 5:00-8:00pm) Help solve a unique Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math challenge in the STEM Studio focused on problem-based learning. Iowa Children’s Museum. Free

Free First Saturdays for Students (First Saturday of the month, 9:30am-4:00pm) Students of all ages (preschool through college) are invited to visit the NCSML’s exhibits for free on the first Saturday of each month. Visitors will also be able to take part in different themed activities and celebrations. College students must bring a current school ID card. National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library. Free. 

Storytime at Barnes N Noble (Saturdays and Sundays @ 11:00am) Children storytime on Saturdays for bigger kids with activities to follow, plus, get a coupon from our Café for a $4 Flatbread with any Café purchase (Café stores only). Baby & Me Storytime on Sundays for caregivers and children 0-24 months old (read a book and participate in activities featuring sensory growth for your little ones. Fall Festival (September 15 – October 31) Come and join us at Bloomsbury Farm during our 2019 Fall Festival for an exciting day! You’ll be able to enjoy our festival Monday – Saturday from 9AM – 6PM and Sunday from 11AM – 5PM. Bring your friends and family to make memories! Fall Festival Includes: U Pick ‘Em & Pre Picked Pumpkins, Barnyard Buddies, Two 10-Acre Corn Mazes, Photo Ops, and 20+ attractions. Bloomsbury Farm.

NewBo Art Fest (September 1, 9:00am-3:00pm) NewBo Art Fest is Cedar Rapids’ premier art show, focused on Midwest artists. NewBo Art Fest welcomes applications from all artists, and is known for showcasing high quality artwork. New Bohemia District. Free

Last Ski Show of 2019! (September 2, 5:00-6:00pm) It’s the Cedar Swamp Stunt Show! A thrilling spectacle, jam packed with daredevil jumps, high speed barefoot skiing, graceful water ballet, towering pyramids, and much more! But the stunt performers aren’t alone in the swamp. Something creepy lurks in the shallow water… and it doesn’t want to share the swamp! There is only one set of bleachers and they fill up fast, so if you like to show up once the action starts it would be wise to bring a lawn chair. If you get hungry or thirsty we have a fully stocked concession stand. Five Seasons Ski Team. Free

Open House at the Music and Arts Studios! (September 3, 5:00-7:00pm) If you’ve ever been curious about what our Music and Arts Studio has to offer, now’s the time to find out! Drop by anytime between 5:00 and 7:00 to take a tour of our facility and learn about the fun and exciting programming we have to offer this fall. Staff will be available to answer questions and show you around. Eastern Iowa Arts Academy. Free

Story Time & Play Time (September 4, 9:00-11:00am) Come spend the morning at Kids First and enjoy a few stories. Following that is play time to burn off some energy on our large, padded, indoor playground. No previous experience is needed and the children are supervised by experienced and safety trained coaches. Kids First Gymnastics. Free

Wickiup Wandering Woods Club (September 4, 10:00-11:00am) The “Club” is a time set aside for play at Wickiup Hill where you know other children will be here to play and make new friends. There is no formal program, but our naturalists will bring around a critter or two to meet while you are here. You can play inside the Learning Center or outside at the Nature Playscape – Wickiup’s Wandering Woods. All ages. No cost, but register two days prior to the scheduled event. DISNEY’S Enchanted Tales: Moana (September 6-8, various showtimes) Have you ever wished (upon a star) that you could relive the magic of Disney movies on the big screen? This September, we’re giving you your chance! Marcus Theatres and Movie Tavern is proud to present the Disney’s Enchanted Tales series. The perfect outing for families, friends, and all ages. Uptown Fall Fest and Dog Fashion Show (September 7, 10:00am-2:00pm) The Dog Fashion Show @ 11am will occur in conjunction with Uptown Fall Fest, which offers shopping and entertainment in Uptown Marion. Participants will receive a gift for showing off their dog at this fun, family-friendly event. Prizes will be awarded to the “winners,” determined by volunteer judges. CoderDojo (September 7, 1:00-3:00pm) CoderDojo is a free K-5 STEAM program by NewBoCo K-12 Education that encourages creativity, fosters entrepreneurship, and helps kids learn to code. Attendees are welcomed at 1 pm and everyone is given the details on what stations are available that day. This is an opportunity for kids to explore technology, coding, critical thinking at various entry levels. You can always expect several computer science options that range from Code.org’s Hour of Code to database development, web development, or custom projects to help kids learn a new skill. Stations may include a varitey of robotics, VR, app development, HTML, intro to coding, circuitry, engineering challenges and more! Parents, feel free to stay and learn along side your child! Salute to the Heroes Weekend (September 7-8, all day) We are excited to announce “Salute to the Heroes” Weekend at The Play Station! We want to thank all Fire, Police, EMS and First Responders and their families by offering a Free weekend at The Play Station! Grandparents Weekend at The Play Station (September 7-8, all day) All kids will get free admission to The Play Station if they bring there grandparents with them! Trail Trekkers: Busy Buzzing Bees (September 11 & 14, 10:00-11:00am) Honey is a sweet treat that the bees work all summer to make. Get to know the drone, worker, and queen bee. Little Sprouts: Peanut the Turtle (September 12, 10:00-11:00am) Naturalist Sarah will introduce you to our newest animal friend at Wickiup Hill: Peanut, the painted turtle. Find out why he is named Peanut and what makes him so unique! We will also make a fun turtle craft to take home. Ages 3-6, but younger and older siblings welcome, register by September 10. 14th Annual Lincoln Highway Arts Festival (September 14, 9:00am-4:00pm) More than 50 artists and entertainers will join the event to celebrate art, music, and creativity. The Lincoln Highway Arts Festival will also include: artist booths, artist demonstrations, a variety of art activities for kids, live music and more! Uptown Mount Vernon. Free

10 Year Celebration – Free Family Fun Day and Open House! (September 14, 10:00am-1:00pm) It’s our 10 year BIRTHDAY! Our ‘Free Family Fun Day’ will take place in the main studio, located in the heart of NewBo in Cedar Rapids. The Center will offer free family clay workshops throughout the day, including demonstrations to celebrate a decade of creating together. Items created will be fired, free of charge, and available for pickup at a later date. Come out and celebrate with us! The Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio. Free

Slide In Movie Night at The Play Station (September 14, 5:00-8:00pm) Slide In Movie Nights are Back! We will be showing Wonder Park Movie on our big screen projector system! Festival Latino de Cedar Rapids (September 15, 11:00am-5:00pm) Come celebrate and experience the richness and diversity of the Latin American culture! Meet Vesta the Fox (September 15, 1:00-2:00pm) A little over a year ago a baby fox with a second chance at life was rescued by Linn County wildlife rehabilitator Amber Oldfield. Vesta and Amber will join us for an open-house style program. Learn about one-year-old Vesta’s story, as well as other animals native to Iowa, and about being a wildlife rehabilitator. This is a walk-in event. Indian Creek Nature Center. Free

Nerf Wars (September 15, 1:00-2:30pm) You will be divided into platoons and then you and your comrades will construct a fortification to protect your flag. The battle will begin and fought until the mission objective of retrieving the enemie’s flag is obtained. Ammunition will be provided for the event. Dog tags for all participants. Apelfest (September 21, 9:00am-10:00pm) It’s the autumn of the year and that’s apple time and on this Saturday we will celebrate all things apple (and somethings that aren’t).  Here is a chance to experience the Amana Colonies at a wonderful time of year.  The leaves are turning and there is a slight crispness in the air.  Kind of like that crisp caramel apple.  Stop by one of our restaurants for a little Apfelstrudel and enjoy the special events throughout our seven villages. Kid N Canvas (September 21, 10:00-11:30am) Kid N Canvas classes are for kids 8 to 16. All supplies (canvas, paints, brushes and apron) are provided for you, but please on clothes that are ok to get paint on. Class lasts about 1.5 to 2 hrs. Tiny Fair featuring Animals Up Close (September 21, 2:00-4:00pm) The theme is “Animals up Close.” Children will enjoy seeing turtles, chickens, a goat, and more! Local organizations, including Trees Forever, will provide hands-on crafts and learning opportunities about animals. Take home a new “pet” through DKW Art Gallery’s “color a butterfly” activity. Hocus Pocus Movie Night 2019 (September 21, 4:30-9:00pm) Join us at Bloomsbury Farm to kick off the Halloween season with our annual event “An Evening of Hocus Pocus!” The Farm will open at 4:30 PM to enjoy the activities – Hayrack Rides, Jumping Pillow, Corn Mazes, Haunted Houses, Barrell Train Rides, and SO much more! We will have bonfires going and other witchy fun and entertainment going on! The movie will start when it gets dark, and it will be projected onto our big, white barn! Bloomsbury Farm. Swamp Fox Festival (September 27-28, all day) Join in the celebration of Marion’s heritage at the 30th annual Swamp Fox Festival. A variety of events will take place the last weekend in September. On Saturday check out the Fall Marion Market, Swamp Fox 10K/5K, a pancake breakfast and the ever-popular Swamp Fox Parade. The fun moves to Lowe Park on Saturday evening for live music at the amphitheater, food, bingo, kids activities and a grand fireworks finale. Lowe Park Arts & Environment Center. Free

Ely Fall Fest (September 28, 10:00am-4:00pm) Make your way to Ely on Saturday September 28 for the second day of the 12th annual Fall Fest celebration, organized by the Ely Parks and Recreation Commission! A family oriented day full of fun including inflatables, a face painter, delicious food and a classic car show! Proceeds directly benefit local park and recreation projects. Ely.

Kirkwood Horse Spectacular (September 29, 10:00am-4:00pm) Join us for fun, hands-on experiences with horses! From presentations to activities and performances, your family will love this fun-filled day centered around horses. All attendees, ages 4 and up receive a horse or pony ride with admission. Spooky Stories and S’mores (October 9, 4:00-9:00pm) Join us at Bloomsbury Farm as we gather around a campfire and tell spooky stories, munch on some s’mores, and sip on some hot cocoa to warm up! The Farm will open at 4:00 PM for our fun Fall activities, and we will light the fire as the sun goes down. Stories will be told by Wheezy our Friendly Witch – and they are geared towards ages 1-12. Super Hero Bash (October 12, 10:00am-12:00pm) Families Helping Families of Iowa’s Super Hero Bash features mascots, police officers, firefighters, activity tables, candy tubs, a DJ and a costume contest. Night at the Museum Family Fun Night (October 18, 6:00-9:00pm) It’s a night at the museum! Family Fun Night celebrates our fall exhibitions Up All Night: Art of the Dark and Haunted: Marvin Cone’s Ghosts.  Come dressed in your favorite costume for tricks and treats like make-and-take masterpieces that glow under black light, scavenger hunts, and night-owl projects you can take home! 8th Annual Wickiup Fall Fest (October 19, 10:00am-12:00pm) Come out and experience our friendly trick or treat hike through the woods, pumpkin bowling, straw scramble, creepy critters, and more! Russian Ballet Theatre Presents Swan Lake (October 23 @ 7:30pm) Those faithful to the tradition of Swan Lake, must see Russian Ballet Theatre’s new production of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s timeless classic. Choreographer Nadezhda Kalinina (Mariinsky Theatre, Teatro Lirico, Omsk State Music Theatre) lovingly retouches the oldest St. Petersburg version of the ballet and adds her vision and something more that undoubtedly will leave audiences flushed with emotion.  RBT’s dancers bring her choreography to life along with the new exquisite hand painted sets and 150 new hand sewn costumes. Family Yoga with Twisted Yoga (October 27, 1:00-2:00pm) Yoga and fun for the entire family! Join us for this one hour class that will focus on playful poses, engaging games, simple breath techniques, partner family poses and a relaxing meditation. Ideal for kids ages 5-10 and their adults but all ages welcome.  Bring your mats (or beach towels) and be ready for some family fun! Indian Creek Nature Center. Cost: $20/family

Playtime Poppy Presents: Reeling (October 31 @ 4:30pm) It’s the big day: Buster is going to propose to the love of his life. Now all he has to do is get a job, get a ring, get to Hollywood, sneak on the set, convince everyone he is the director, and get her the star role in the film, escape the cops who are hot on his tail, and have her say yes. Playtime Poppy Presents: Reeling (November 1-2 various times) It’s the big day: Buster is going to propose to the love of his life. Now all he has to do is get a job, get a ring, get to Hollywood, sneak on the set, convince everyone he is the director, and get her the star role in the film, escape the cops who are hot on his tail, and have her say yes. CoderDojo (November 2, 1:00-3:00pm) CoderDojo is a free K-5 STEAM program by NewBoCo K-12 Education that encourages creativity, fosters entrepreneurship, and helps kids learn to code. Attendees are welcomed at 1 pm and everyone is given the details on what stations are available that day. This is an opportunity for kids to explore technology, coding, critical thinking at various entry levels. You can always expect several computer science options that range from Code.org’s Hour of Code to database development, web development, or custom projects to help kids learn a new skill. Stations may include a varitey of robotics, VR, app development, HTML, intro to coding, circuitry, engineering challenges and more! Parents, feel free to stay and learn along side your child! Wickiup Wandering Woods Club (November 5, 10:00-11:00am) The “Club” is a time set aside for play at Wickiup Hill where you know other children will be here to play and make new friends. There is no formal program, but our naturalists will bring around a critter or two to meet while you are here. You can play inside the Learning Center or outside at the Nature Playscape – Wickiup’s Wandering Woods. All ages. No cost, but register two days prior to the scheduled event. Gratitude Rocks! Family Activity (November 9, 10:00am-12:00pm) November tends to be a month that we remember all that we have to be grateful for. We will combine gratitude, creativity and rocks to create keepsakes to remember all year round. Are you a rock painting pro or ready to give it a try? We provide all the materials. Just bring a friend or your family and be ready to create! Activity is for all ages, come anytime between 10 a.m. -12 p.m. Each person can create 3 rocks to take home. Meet Vesta the Fox (November 10, 1:00-2:00pm) A little over a year ago a baby fox with a second chance at life was rescued by Linn County wildlife rehabilitator Amber Oldfield. Vesta and Amber will join us for an open-house style program. Learn about one-year-old Vesta’s story, as well as other animals native to Iowa, and about being a wildlife rehabilitator. This is a walk-in event. Indian Creek Nature Center. Free

Little Sprouts: Leaf Globes (November 13, 10:00-11:00am) Join Naturalist Sarah as we make leaf globes filled with beautiful fall colors, take a leaf hike and read a story. Ages 3-6, but younger and older siblings welcome, register by November 11. Wickiup Hill Learning Center. Cost: $3

Trail Trekkers: Fall Harvest, Winter Rest (November 13 & 16, 10:00-11:00am) Hibernation, migration, and adaptation are the words of the day as we explore what different creatures do to get ready for winter! We’ll play animal games to see how well you can hibernate, and see who we can find still active outside. For preschoolers with adult. Dress for indoor and outdoor activities. Bingo Night at Lowe (November 15, 6:30-8:30pm) Family/Kid friendly bingo night. Doors open at 6:00p.m. Guests welcome to bring food and drink. Seats and cards are first come, first serve. Lowe Park Arts & Environment Center. Cost: $0.25 per card, per game with cash prizes.

Workshop: Glass Holiday Ornaments (November 23, 10:30am-12:00pm & 2:00-3:30pm) We create HUNDREDS of glass ornaments in this ever popular series of workshops. Last year, these workshops sold out by September—-so secure your registration early. Everyone in the workshops will create 2-3 handmade ornaments from glass, that you will cherish for many years to come. Kids ages 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Family Yoga with Twisted Yoga (November 24, 1:00-2:00pm) Yoga and fun for the entire family! Join us for this one hour class that will focus on playful poses, engaging games, simple breath techniques, partner family poses and a relaxing meditation. Ideal for kids ages 5-10 and their adults but all ages welcome.  Bring your mats (or beach towels) and be ready for some family fun! Indian Creek Nature Center. Cost: $20/family

Trolls Live! (November 29-December 1, various times) Get ready for another hair-raising adventure when Poppy, Branch and their friends come to life on-stage in Trolls LIVE!, their first ever live tour! The journey begins when the Trolls’ Hug Time is unexpectedly put at risk. Knowing that the only way to save it is by doing what the Trolls do best, Poppy hosts a toe-tapping, Trolls-tastic show, jam-packed with all the epic music, glitter, humor and happiness only the Trolls can create. This is one Trolls party you won’t want to miss! US Cellular Center. Tickets: $22-113

Workshop: Clay Holiday Trees (November 30, 10:30am-12:00pm & 2:00-3:30pm) Make a holiday tree from clay to decorate your home. The decorative options are endless! Kids ages 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio. Cost: $18

Junior Claus (November 30 @ 1:00pm) Theatre for Young Audiences. Santa’s son, Junior Claus, loves making new high-tech gadgets at the North Pole Workshop, but between a grumpy elf (who might be trying to ruin Christmas) and a failing Santa Belief-O-Meter, he is really starting to feel the pressure. Can he find his self-confidence and learn the true meaning of Christmas in time to save the day? Old Creamery Theatre. Cost: $10.50
