Take the Lead in Our Community with the Cedar Rapids Kernels {Sponsored Post}

Our partners, the Kernels, love Cedar Rapids and want to spread that love around the community through their new Take the Lead campaign.

Take the Lead was created to support local non-profit organizations and community outreach, while enhancing the fundraising efforts of the Kernels Foundation.

The organization offers a number of programs to support the local community. Kernels players, staff, and mascot, Mr. Shucks, make nearly 300 community appearances each year. Some examples of what the Kernels have done around the community include:

  • The League of Dreams: This program is a partnership of the Kernels, Perfect Game USA and Minor League Baseball, and gives over 150 children the opportunity to play in a non-competitive baseball program, free of charge. This program has been going strong since 2008.
  • Kernels Summer Reading Program: The program encourages students to read throughout the summer and earn prizes.
  • Nick Adenhart Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship fund recently expanded to include two $1,000 scholarships to metro high school seniors.
  • The Kernels players and staff have also volunteered at a number of organizations, including Junior Achievement, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and the Salvation Army.

To see why the Kernels are devoted to taking the lead, check out the videos below.

Take the Lead Mission Statement

From the Front Office to the dugout, “Take the Lead” exemplifies how teamwork and collective efforts support and benefit the Cedar Rapids Corridor. The Kernels are committed to being the community beacon for education, social and recreation programs.
