See a University of Iowa Health Care doctor NOW with UIeCare’s Virtual Health Care Service

We’ve all been there. Your kiddo is sick and can’t get in to see the doctor for a few hours. Or YOU are sick and dreading to have to take your child with you to get checked at the Urgent Care Clinic. Wouldn’t it be great if your doctor made house calls?

Guess what, UIeCare does! UIeCare, one of Iowa’s first virtual health care services, makes it possible for Iowans to see a University of Iowa Health Care-credentialed provider via a webcam or smart phone from anywhere in Iowa at any time

UIeCare’s virtual health care service is for minor illnesses and injuries that are urgent but not an emergency, such as bug bites, ear pain, fever, flu-like symptoms, minor burns, pink eye, rash, sore throat, urinary tract infections, and vomiting. The service is the only one in Iowa with medical providers from University of Iowa Health Care.

Connect with a UIHC doctor Now with UIeCare's Virtual Health Care ServiceWe talked to a Cedar Rapids mom who has used the service to get the scoop on what it’s really like. Here’s what Trista had to say about UIeCare’s virtual health care service:

I used UIeCare for a urinary tract infection because I didn’t feel well and didn’t want to go anywhere. It was super quick. I put in a request and someone video called me within ten minutes. Probably less. The visit lasted maybe 20 minutes. I actually felt like I spent more time with the doctor than if I would have gone to an office. She was genuinely concerned with making me feel better as soon as possible and was very thorough. I will use UIeCare for myself and my kiddos again and again if needed. It sure beats going in and sitting in a waiting room!!

A UIeCare visit costs $50. Patients do not need health insurance and can seek reimbursement from a health savings account or an insurance plan. Patients do not need to be a patient at the University of Iowa to use the service.

To start your visit, request care at uiecare.com.  Patients will answer screening questions to ensure virtual health care is appropriate. If not, a referral may be made to an emergency room or primary care physician. After requesting care online, patients are typically contacted by a physician within 30 minutes, but often in less than 15 minutes. Prescriptions can be written if medically appropriate. If your UIeCare provider determines within the first three minutes of the visit that your condition would be better treated at a nearby medical facility, you will not be charged the $50 fee.

An internet broadband speed of 1 Mbps upstream is recommended for videoconferencing.

Ready to give it a try? You can request care online or by using UIeCare’s free apps for iPhone or Android
