Our family recently spent a morning at the Iowa Children’s Museum and the kids can’t wait to go back.
My kids are ages 6, 4, and 2, and there was something for everyone.
The space area was a hit for our son, where he got to dress up as an astronaut and play pretend in his very own rocket ship! Our oldest daughter enjoyed the farm area, where she got to milk a fake cow and plant/cultivate plastic vegetables. And our youngest could’ve spent all day in the art room, creating her very own masterpieces with crayons, paint, and other craft supplies.
The room that was the hardest to get them to leave: the skateboarding room!
They absolutely loved putting on pads and attempting to ride the boards (without wheels) down a carpeted ramp. The area that gave me the biggest laugh: the hospital where my 6-year-old daughter instructed other kids to take a seat on the exam table and then proceeded to give them X-rays.
I love the imaginations of children!
As we walked in, we noticed a couple of school buses arriving that must have been there for a field trip. We worried it might be crowded, but the space is so big and there are so many different areas to explore, that we had no issues.
I haven’t even mentioned the Lego room or the time they spent using paint rollers to pretend to paint a room. Plus the music area, the pizzeria, the grocery store, the bank…
There is truly so much to explore that any family would be able to spend a whole week here and still find something new.
After our adventurous morning, we were all exhausted! It felt so good to know the kids spent their day being active, using their imaginations, and making new friends. And the thought that it opened their eyes and minds to new possibilities: priceless.
