Meet Meredith Zuspann:
Hello! My name is Meredith Zuspann and I’m excited to be part of the Cedar Rapids Moms Blog team! I was born and raised in Cedar Rapids and went to Linn-Mar High School before attending Central College in Pella. While in college I met my husband, Aaron; he was a basketball player and I was a cheerleader. We reconnected and started dating while we were student teaching.
After graduation, I accepted a job as a teacher with the Vinton-Shellsburg School District and moved back to the Cedar Rapids area. I was excited about the chance to be back near family and friends and start a family in the area I grew up. My husband and I married in July of 2011 and welcomed our daughter, Claire, in February of 2014. (Fun fact: She was the third generation in our family to be born at St. Luke’s Hospital!).
We absolutely love being parents and enjoy watching Claire change and grow each day. Our family of 3 enjoys being on the go, visiting local parks, participating in library activities and attending sporting events. When we can, Aaron and I like to visit local restaurants or see a movie or a show at Theatre Cedar Rapids. I’m currently working on my Masters Degree in Education from Morningside College, but when I do have ‘me time’, I enjoy watching reality TV, making freezer meals or catching up on social media. I’m excited to have the chance to connect with other moms in the Cedar Rapids area and learn from their experiences as well as share some of mine.
Meet Brenda Saville:
I am a newcomer to Cedar Rapids Moms Blog and am excited to contribute a veteran mom perspective on things! I was born and raised in Duluth, Minnesota with two brothers and a sister. I met my husband Scott there, while I was in my senior year of college at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and he was working at a local television station. I graduated with an BAA degree in Art and a minor in Interior Design, and shortly after graduation moved to Reno, NV to be with my soon-to- be husband.
We married in 1990 and moved to Cedar Rapids in 1992 while I was pregnant with our first child. We decided we wanted to be closer to our families when starting our own. We have three beautiful daughters, Emily (24) married to the best son-in-law ever (Drew), Madeline (20) a sophomore in college, and our baby Hanna (18) a high school senior. They are hands down, the best thing(s) that have ever happened to me!! Our lovable dogs Tucker and JJ round out our household.
Scott and I have made it through 26 years of marriage…and I can safely report all happy ones! After working several years in the interior design business, I decided to stay at home after my second daughter was born. I headed back into the work force when my third daughter turned two, getting a job with the school district as an elementary grade assistant then moving on to the Alternative high school as a building secretary/administrative assistant. I also hold down a part-time job, working some evenings and weekends. Being in the school district enabled me to be at my daughters’ school activities, which I absolutely live for!!
I still enjoy volunteering when I can at school in the concession stands, at track meets, and at church, where I also taught religious education for 15 years. I now spend my extra time scrap booking, still traveling to various activities of my daughters, and trying to get back in fighting shape with my weight and energy level!
I look forward to sipping my vanilla lattes and sharing some fun stories and insights with the Cedar Rapids moms!
