Meet Ashley Caton

I grew up in small-town Alburnett, where I currently live with my husband of 10 years, Tom. He is a machinist at Sadler Machine Company. Tom loves to be outside working in his shop or playing his drums in the Worship band at church.  

We dated for 5 months before Tom proposed. A year later we were married, just a month after I graduated nursing school. We had always known that we wanted children, so we started trying about 8 months after marriage. We found out we were pregnant August 31, 2008, just one day before our 1st anniversary. What a special gift! Several weeks later our pregnancy ended in miscarriage. We were clear to start trying again, so after a year of no luck we sought help. We spent about 5 years trying to conceive.  I felt strongly that God had a different plan for us and we should consider adoption.

Through adoption, we now have four beautiful children. Jordan, 11, is quiet and a die-hard sports fanatic. Nina, 9, is an outgoing and charismatic performer who loves gymnastics and being the center of attention. William, 7, is my warm-hearted snuggler, who will give all he has to others just so they are happy. Rico, 6, is my master-ninja and giver of hugs. He loves to read and cannot wait to be able to read “big books” like his siblings.   

We cannot forget about our fur-babies! Hank is our 9 month old golden retriever, Wrigley is our 12 year old poodle, and Abi-dog, is an elderly golden/lab mix. We have a house cat, Milo and outside kitties which were all affectionally named by our children: Poppy, Branch, Cooper and Smidge from Trolls. Did I mention we live out in the country?

I currently work as a neonatal intensive care nurse. Being able to care for the tiniest miracles and their families is so rewarding. I enjoy Crossfit and have done a few Crossfit competitions over the past few years. It is so rewarding for my mental health!  I also love being a part of an awesome church, which is so amazing for my soul. I look forward to connecting with other women through Cedar Rapids Moms Blog!
