Meet Ashley Bass
Hello! My name is Ashley Bass and I am a small town girl at heart. I grew up in West Union, Iowa which is about 90 miles north of Cedar Rapids and I moved here to attend Coe College. I graduated in 2007 with my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. I’ve known I wanted to be a teacher since I was in the 3rd grade and truly love my job as a kindergarten teacher at The Hiawatha Day School.
My husband, Mitch, and I have quite the “love story”. We met each other back in middle school. His parents were missionaries at the time, so he moved to Mongolia before our 8th grade year. When we were freshman in high school he moved back and we dated each other for a few months before he again moved, this time to Waterloo. We both graduated high school in 2003 and Mitch joined the Army right after that. We reconnected again when he added me as a friend on Facebook shortly after returning from his first deployment. That was 11 years ago and we’ve been together ever since. This October we celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary and we will be the first to admit that marriage isn’t easy, but when you’re with the one you love it’s all worth it.
My daughter, Stella Grace Bass, is 4 years old. It’s true what they say, that there’s nothing stronger than a mother’s love. Stella is absolutely amazing and I’m so proud to be her mom. She loves wearing dresses and being a princess, yet she’s not afraid to pick up a worm and get her hands dirty. I like to call it “the best of both worlds”. Things are about to get even more exciting around the Bass house as we prepare to welcome our second child, a baby boy, in early January. Stella is so excited to become a big sister and I keep wondering if it’s true what everyone says: that going from one child to two changes everything. I guess we’ll find out soon enough!
My family loves the outdoors. Mitch is big into hunting and as a family we love camping, hiking, fishing, and having bonfires in the backyard. We are also big Iowa Hawkeye fans and have made Friday night our ‘pizza and movie’ nights. Personally, I would live in yoga pants and cozy sweatshirts if I could and I consider cookie dough to be one of my favorite foods. I’m addicted to taking pictures of everything we do and putting together photo albums, and I really enjoy baking.
I am so excited to be a part of the Cedar Rapids Moms Blog and to share in the many ups and downs, highs and lows, and triumphs and trials of motherhood with all of you!
